Facts on Trafficking

  • There are more than 1.5 million victims of sexual slavery across the world.  With 300,000 plus being put on the streets of America!  Only 1% of these victims are ever rescued.
  • According to a United Nations report, one person becomes a victim of human trafficking every 30 seconds!
  • Each year, an estimated 800,000 men, women and children are trafficked... that's 800,000 lives destroyed.
  • Victims are forced to service as many as 40 men a day. Their average age is 14, although some sex slaves are as young as 4 years old.

What can we do?

According to a Department of Justice study the need for appropriate shelter is the number one concern right now.  These need to be special shelters where the victims not only feel safe from their predator but also a place equipped to handle the issues that these victims are dealing with.  That is what House of Abundant Life is.

According to The Coalition Against Human Trafficking

The FBI says that there are 127 active brothels in Houston, with 2 new ones opening each month.

The scope of human trafficking in Texas:

Dr. Condoleezza Rice, former US Secretary of State says

This kind of modern-day slavery is hard to imagine in the United States. I think these cases are so painful to see, and it’s often hard even for the victims to recognize that they are victims. It’s disgusting. These organizations are run by some of the very worst criminals in our society. They treat human beings as cargo, as commodities to prey upon for a simple profit.

Kathi West, Assistant United States Attorney says

A lot of people assume that human trafficking only happens in other countries; that this couldn’t possibly happen here in the U.S. I think they would be very surprised to find how much it is happening, and it is probably happening in their town.
